Sustainability

Sustainability Logo

AET's sustainability initiatives revolve around three key areas: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. By analyzing internal data and market initiatives, ambitious goals have been put in place to measure future performance. The goals we are currently working toward include:

  • Decreasing greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity (scope 1 and 2) 15% from 2008 levels by 2018
  • Reducing landfill waste to less than 0.5% of total production output by 2011

As we accomplish our goals, new goals will be set. The long-term plans will address the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic and social.

We plan to decrease GHG emissions by reducing electricity consumption, reusing process heat, improving production efficiency and developing thinner gauge films to meet market needs.

For the solid waste goal, we will recycle what has been routinely discarded, such as paper, scrap film, cardboard, pellets and packaging material. We will reuse previously landfilled waste, such as pallets for mulch or filter pack waste for energy. In 2008, all of the solide wast AET landfilled reached 1.38% of total production output. Our goal represents a 65% reduction.

AET is a proud member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition.
